Social Media Policy
Adopted at 5/24/18 Council Meeting
The Santa Fe Food Policy Council (SFFPC) recognizes the importance of the internet to create
and maintain a food system that nourishes all people in our community in a just and sustainable
manner. The SFFPC is committed to using the internet through social media to provide
knowledgeable content, activate members of the community, and support honest, transparent,
and informed dialogue.
The following social media guidelines apply to any internet based accounts managed by the
SFFPC. Members of the SFFPC, the organizations they represent, other collaborating
organizations and individuals are solely responsible for the content of their own accounts.
Content and Community Guidelines
As experts and advocates for members of the community around issues of a just, sustainable
and nourishing food system, the SFFPC believes that sharing of information and experiences
around these issues benefits the whole community. Content will be evaluated for its relevance
towards advancing the mission of the SFFPC.
The following are the types of content that the SFFPC will publish:
● SFFPC Meeting notices
● Informational or congratulatory stories
● Action items
● Event notices hosted by government and nonprofit organizations.
The following are examples of types of content the SFFPC will not publish:
● Endorsements of political candidates
● Hate speech
● Spam
● Commercial Activity
The SFFPC seeks to build trust by being transparent and open to discussion. In accordance
with this:
● Valid, negative comments will not be deleted.
● Irrelevant, illegal or vulgar content will be deleted.
● Misinformation will be corrected.
● SFFPC will not engage in heated arguments.
If the SFFPC blocks more than two comments or posts from the same individual or organization,
the SFFP will block the poster and if necessary report them to the owner of the platform.
Definition of roles
The SFFPC may maintain several public accounts on platforms such as, but not limited to a
website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Vimeo, LinkedIn, Meetup, and
Tumblr.
All official SFFPC social media accounts are managed by the SFFPC Education and Outreach
Committee.
Establishing a new SFFPC presence on a public platform must be authorized beforehand by the
Education and Outreach Committee. The Committee will consult with the entire SFFPC if the
new platform represents a significant change in technology or communication.
The Education and Outreach Committee grants access to other members of the Council to
administer groups on the platforms and to post content.
A designated member of the Education and Outreach Committee is responsible for the security
of passwords and upkeep of these accounts.
An updated list of accounts and passwords will be shared with the Council Chair(s) and the
Council Coordinator.
Media inquiries received via through social media will be referred to Council Coordinator and/or
the City of Santa Fe Public Information Officer for an official response.
Images
Because social media content relies on heavily on timely images and stories, the SFFPC will
post images of individuals in public spaces without the use of express consent. The SFFPC will
only create original posts with photos or videos of an identifiable child’s face when permission
has been obtained from the parent. The SFFPC will repost content from other sources without
obtaining express consent from individuals portrayed in the images and stories.
Attribution
The SFFPC seeks to raise awareness about research and issues in the field and give
appropriate credit for that work. The SFFPC will provide a link to the original content and use
the creator’s name whenever possible. We will post only items that are covered by fair use or
published under Creative Commons.
