The SFFPC formed a GMO Task Force in response to City Resolution 2013-25 which expressed support for the labeling of GMO products and ingredients for consumer information. This Resolution also directs staff to explore the options for enacting City/County legislation that would prohibit the propagation, cultivation, raising and growing of GMO organisms.
The GMO task force developed a set of policy/programmatic recommendations that were presented to Councilor Bushee, and Commissioner Holian in 2013. Through this process, these recommendations have been refined into a comprehensive draft Scope of Work for the County, which address public health, agricultural economic development, and pride in local agricultural tradition: Santa Fe County Agriculture Economic Development Campaign
